Found this place on Google. Was looking for something off the beaten path, less touristy. Found it. It's a cute little place tucked back in the St Paul neighborhood east of the convention center. I had the chicken and waffles with country gravy and syrup. It was delicious! My friend had the Creole breakfast with catfish and eggs and biscuits. Also delish!
I went to eat here on Saturday before the UTSA game. I am born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas - a Mexican but know good Cajun food. I was really expecting a great meal but was disappointed. The hump had no taste of rue and was greasy. The meats were off flavor and the rice was light brown. I had the shrimp etoufee, the shrimps were hard from being overcooked. I spent 10 minutes in restaurant and ate very little, it was that bad. I have eaten at Ms Harper's and it isn't like Judice in Port Arthur it did taste like gumbo with little or no hot seasoning. I will not be eating here until I see a change in recipe. This really was bad.
Went there last year after thanksgiving. Oxtails were the absolute worst I have ever eaten. There was so much fat I was sickened by the looks of it. I should have given it back but was too hungry. I had to sit there and pull the meat out of the fat. Never again.I noticed the owner doesn't have much to say. Only to a few people. I guess he would be out of business if he had to accommodate all these negative reviews. Still wouldn't go back.
The fried chicken and candied yams were my favorite. You also get a ton of food for the price. The food did take a lil bit to come out but its worth it.
We've been looking for a good soul food place for a while now. A quick google search and we came across Tony gs.
Great food & waitress was a sweetie! Food did take a while to come out, but it was worth the wait. We had chicken and waffles, side of corn, mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese and bisquets. All around it was a great experience. Owner came in while we were there and came over and said hello. Told us they were moving to a new location with more room and better parking. If you're in the area come and try for yourself. It's definitely worth it. Prices were great as well.
