They brag before the films about the millions of dollars Santikos gives to charities. They should use some money to put into new seating. They don't have to be the fancy reclining seats. Just new seats. They are all worn and I usually go early because we have to switch a few times before we find one that is not really worn out. Its extremely dark here like a cave. I feel that so many people like myself who appreciate film festivals and special engagements are what keeps this movie theatre alive. I love the food. I love the movies that you show but its hard to watch them in comfort. It's not like we have a choice which theater we attend because most of your showings are just at the Bijou. I come here weekly and after going to the Embassy or Palladium I was just disgusted by lack of care and attention Santikos gives it.
I usually stay seated after the film for a few minutes to chat with buddies and decompress. But when I was there to see "The Little Hours" two weeks ago, theater staff insisted we leave the theater immediately after the film ended, for cleaning, ( the next feature would not be for another hour and a half). I don't think they should have kicked us out so abruptly. I don't like the Drafthouse theater because the staff are so intrusive. I guess it's catching at Santikos now.
I've been going to the Bijou for decades, probably since it first opened. Bijou shows first-run films not shown anywhere else in SA AND was one of the first theatres in the country to serve food & drink (including beer & wine) in the audience seating area. The special events -- Met Opera, National Theatre Live, FREE environmental film festivals, concert broadcasts, etc. -- are rare treats. And the Bijou supports local artists: There is always an extensive exhibit of local artists' work in the lobby. And often there is a real live pianist playing in the cafe area. Sure, it ain't the most glamorous or glitziest movie palace in SA, but it's comfortable and the offerings are unique. And, remember, folks, thanks to the extremely -- EXTREMELY! -- generous bequest of the late John Santikos, all profits from tickets & concessions at any Santikos theatre go to charitable foundation projects that extend into eight counties in the SA area. Seriously, every dime of profit from all Santikos theatres goes to help many, many projects. The Santikos gift has made an enormous change for the good in San Antonio. See y'all at the movies -- at the Bijou!
I LOVE this theater, who cares if theres a little popcorn on the seat? Are you kidding? They have the best independent films and the people there are SUPER NICE and welcoming. Also, who cares about the bathrooms? I mean who goes to the theater to rate the bathrooms?? Are you kidding me?? Stay home if you're this picky. I ADORE this theater !!
I'm from out of town and always look forward to going to bijou to catch a movie not shown in our area. those of you living in san antonio and complaining about the theatre - at least be grateful you have a place like this. we totally love it and always have a great time there.
