My colleague took a poncho/wrap to the man and asked about the discount. He told her a figure, and she made a counter-offer of a few dollars less. He said no, and she turned to leave. Then the man called to her saying, “But for you, I’ll take $30!” After this exchange, I took a skirt to him, and also asked about the discount. He made a price, to which I counter-offered $30 cash. The man proceeded to berate me, belittle me and insult me with words such as, “Obviously, you ladies have no conception as to how the retail market works. You think you can just come in here and name your price. Your actions are very insulting.” I apologized and told him that I misunderstood and that I meant no insult. He then told us we could leave our items on the counter and exit the store!
My colleague and I were getting a little shopping in before our weekend-long meetings began at the Gunter Hotel. We entered the Plaza Marketplace, and were greeted by a man who appeared to be the manager. He told us that various categories of merchandise were on sale for various discounts, and just to ask. The first thing I noticed was that the merchandise was cute (shawls, hoodies, dresses) but was wildly over-priced ($60+ for an acrylic scarf.)
Giving even lower than one star would be too high for this store. A man who identified himself as Frank greeted me at the door with lists of everything on sale. I was checking out with some items and asked if there was a discount if I paid in cash like so many stores want. He immediately started yelling at me saying I was accusing him of stealing. Of course I was shocked. That was not my intention and told him so. He continued to yell and throw about his arms. He kept screaming even as I was leaving the store. Hopefully there will not be an incorrect charge on my credit card.
The shops were okay. Fun way to kill an afternoon. But beware of where you park and make sure NOTHING of any value is obvious in your car. We came with friends and parked in a pay parking lot with security cameras about a block from the market. We returned to her car a few hours later to find the window bashed in and items stolen.
I purchased several shirts from here. Great quality. Never had an issue with the guy in the front. The store is packed so take your time looking
I have never been treated like this, and if the man does not want to haggle with his customers, he should not make the first move and begin haggling with them himself! I would not recommend anyone visit this store, located right across from the Alamo. There is no telling what this man might take offense at next!
Great
The final words would be to keep walking, preferably running past this store.
