Beyond that the bartender was not trained at all and it was her first day. She didnt have a wine list or the means to accept payment. She was not set up for success in any capacity.
I had to ask for plates for bread and had to ask for waters. We sat for 15 minutes looking at the bread basket with no plates to eat it on and nothing to drink with it. After that the salads (3 ingredients - lettuce, onion, carrot) weren't even tossed and the dressing was bland. The bread basket sat empty, full of trash, next to me for the entire meal. When our plates were being cleared and silverware inadvertently got taken, it's replacement was always an afterthought and was done without any care. A server/busier would just grab extra silver off the nearest table with their bare hands and I was even given a dirty fork off of a dirty table that was waiting to be cleared at one point. The busboy who handed it to me walked away without even seeming to realize how disgusting that was. Entrees came out cold and the vegetables were unseasoned. There wasn't even any gravy on the potatoes. Desserts were very small portions and we were told 3 different things about the options. We elected to get the desserts to go and didn't finish our main courses.
Cozy eatery, good parking. Good menu with a fancy price. But, the chef is great. The bakery is the best. Take it home.
This place has potential, however I feel like it is stuck in the 90's. The food is good and the outside ambience is beautiful. Modernize the menu and interior and it will be back to the ritz, as it once was.
On thanksgiving day we weren't seated until an hour after our reservation. The host (I presume, at least I hope this man wasn't a manager) was doing the wait list on the back sides of a few pieces of paper and kept shuffling them around and it was very apparent he had no clue how to do his job efficiently or expediently. We were told that tables were lingering as the reason for our wait, but as groups were leaving I heard grumblings about waiting 20 minutes just to get the check, etc.
The issues we experienced came so consistently throughout our time that I couldn't be mad at any specific employee and, beyond that, i didn't want to let my disappointment ruin my grandparents' day since they hadn't seen me in a whole year. Once I helped them into the car I went back inside to give the managers a little summary of how wrong things had gone across the board. About halfway through my narrative they started asking if I remembered which server or bussers had been at fault, completely unaware of their role in setting everyone up for failure that day. I told them how disrespectful it was to their staff and to their customers to fumble their way through operations like that, especially on a fully-booked holiday prix fixe menu. There are no excuses for such widespread failures. I will not be going back unless they are under new management. It's a shame. Such a beautiful space and I've had very nice experiences there in the past.
Our family and some friends ate Thanksgiving lunch here and probably will not return. Really disorganized for such a busy day. Our server was awesome. Food was just ok with the dessert being the best. I am really concerned though about the men’s restroom. I believe that the restroom cleanliness reflects back on the staff, they are handling our food. The restroom was nasty and in the stall, facing me on the full wall was a piece of artwork (painting, I think) of a completely naked woman facing whoever was using the facilities, and it wasn’t a small painting either. Now, if I was in a bar, that would be ok, however, I saw many young children at the restaurant that day and am very concerned as to them having to be exposed to something like that. As a father of 3 boys, I was stunned that the restaurant would think of displaying artwork like that anywhere children are present. Get rid of it. If you want to be a respected family establishment you need to think about the children.
Overstaffed, poorly managed, and uninspired food.
While we were getting seated, servers bumped into my grandmother (in her walker) and a busboy moved my grandfather out of his way - not one employee said 'excuse me' and a manager had the nerve to tell me to "run interference ahead of" my grandparents. And after dodging servers and being bumped by a variety of employees, we get to an outdoor table (that isn't even cleared from the previous group) and our reservation had been specific about wanting to sit indoors. Unacceptable.
One of the most wonderful places in San Antonio. My compliments to the chef and the professional staff employed. Took my folks to eat and the meals were fresh and succulent. I highly recommend eating here, be it for lunch or dinner. Best eating experience I have encountered out of the many places I have eaten.
