I wouldn't go as far as to say this is the best Mexican food I've had anywhere, but the enchilada plate here is pretty good and I'd put it in the top 10 I've had anywhere.
I would recommend El Tipico if your looking for some good tasting Mexican food at an affordable price, in a nice dining setting. This restaurant has been in this neighborhood for decades now and survived because the food is good, prices are fair and the service brings back customers.
The food is not as good as I remember. The tortillas are store bought not even handmade. Very disappointed in the cleanliness of the restaurant.
What To Order: "The Regular" Dinner, or on Wednesday "The Merchant Special"
El Tipico has some excellent Mexican food. I've been eating here for decades, and the Mexican food has always remained excellent.
I^m a regular here, I eat here once sometimes twice a week. The food is excellent ALWAYS, the puffy tacos are AWESOME ( must eat there and hot ..no good as leftovers), I highly recommend the number 2 Mexican dinner or the hamburger steak and the chicken fried steak. The customer service is some of the best I've ever seen everyone in there is kind courteous professional and attentive. if I had to say anything constructive about this place I would say that they need to have someone more at the front desk when you come in and they need large to-go to-go cups for their drinks ....that this place rocks.
I love the Super Salad w/ grilled chicken. Their Ranch Dressing is homemade and I love it. The Mexican food is delicious and they cook the steaks exactly as I like it.
Entered and no one was at the front. There wasn't any indication if we should seat ourselves or wait. Took forever for anyone to serve us. Our orders were taken to another table, we were given wrong orders, missing items and food did not taste good. Tables that were dirty remained as such til we left. (Saw plenty of staff walking around not doing anything.) Not going back. Not worth what we paid at all! The other location is way better. Too bad they're renovating.
Service is always excellent, wait time is minimal at lunch, and the wait staff is friendly and humorous at times. All plates are served with fresh tortillas, chips, and salsa.
Wednesdays they offer the Merchant Special with is super cheap and the perfect day to visit if your wanting to give this place a try. While its just enchiladas and a small salad , the tortillas and chips served with it, make it a decent amount of food for lunch.
