Excellent exhibits with important pieces. Each wing is about a day's trip so plan on spending at least two days exploring he entire museum. Beautiful placement of sculptures and the lighting is often exquisite, highlighting pieces in a beautiful way. The collections are intuitive and flowing, each exhibit leading into the next with smooth and thoughtful transitions. The building itself is a study in architectural art and the workings of glass and building materials is masterful.
Located in a former Lone Star Brewery, the San Antonio Art Museum is in a great space. I enjoyed the permanent collection and the temporary exhibits. There is a bias towards Hispanic art, but given its location, that is to be expected. The staff was friendly and I had an enjoyable visit.
The name fits it perfectly! Rich in art! Fell in love with the Roman section. Also the Chinese pieces were stunning! The Christian-Latin-American art work truly represent the Hispanic culture. It is family friendly and there are plenty of restrooms everywhere for all the little "emergencies" our kids had. Really appreciated the free admission day.
It was so fun and interesting. I got to see areas I've never seen before and the staff were so kind and helpful. The current special exhibit (The Latino List) was fantastic. They usually are. It is always worth it.
Definitely one of the best exihibits that you will see. Not just the art but architecture of the building blended with the display of art makes the perfect combination. Very pleasant and professional staff, all willing to assist you. You'll need quite a bit of time for this.
